Remembrance Sunday 2025: Parades and Services Across the North
As communities across Northumberland, County Durham, Yorkshire, and Cumbria prepare to honour those who served, local businesses such as Ideal Caravans are proud to stand alongside them, supporting remembrance events and encouraging residents to take a moment of reflection this November.
From Alnwick and Durham to York, Northallerton, and Barrow, towns and villages will host traditional parades, church services, and acts of remembrance led by veterans, cadets, civic leaders, and residents.
Northumberland: Parades, Services, and Alnwick’s Special Tribute
Across Northumberland, towns will gather to honour the fallen with traditional ceremonies and moments of silence.
Alnwick: The day begins with a service at St Paul’s RC Church at 2:30pm, led by Reverend Tim Moore, with music from The Band of the Regiment of Fusiliers and the Alnwick Allstars. A parade will follow through the town to the War Memorial, where prayers will be led by The Reverend (Squadron Leader) Kit Walker of RAF Boulmer. The ceremony includes the Last Post, the lowering of Standards, and a two-minute silence. Refreshments and a performance will follow at the Alnwick Playhouse.
Blyth: Parade from the Quayside at 10:30am, followed by a service at the Cenotaph in Ridley Park.
Hexham: Parade from Argyll Terrace at 10:30am, with a service and two-minute silence at 10:45am in the Market Place.
Morpeth: 11am service at the Cenotaph in Deuchar Park.
Prudhoe: Residents in Prudhoe will gather for the town’s annual Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service on Sunday, 9th November 2025. The parade will form at 10:30am at the Prudhoe & District United Services Club (The Legion) car park before proceeding along Front Street to the Lychgate War Memorial at St Mary Magdalene Church.
A short Act of Remembrance and wreath-laying ceremony will take place at 11:00am, followed by a church service led by local clergy. After the service, the parade will return to the United Services Club.
The Prudhoe Community Hub will also be open between 10am and 12 noon for quiet reflection or to purchase poppies, providing a welcoming space for those wishing to mark the occasion in a more informal setting.
County Durham: Parades and Commemorations Across the County
Communities across County Durham will also come together to remember, with many events carrying special meaning as 2025 marks the 80th anniversaries of VE Day and VJ Day.
Durham City: 9:45am service at Durham Cathedral followed by a parade through the Market Place. A reproduction Spitfire will be on display in Millennium Place, and evening Remembrance Spotlight Tours at The Story will showcase DLI archives and artefacts.
Bishop Auckland: Parade and service at the Market Place War Memorial from 10:30am.
Barnard Castle: Service at St Mary’s Church at 10:40am, followed by a parade to the War Memorial at The Bowes Museum.
Chester-le-Street: Procession from Park View School to Market Place, with a two-minute silence at 10:58am.
Seaham: Parade from Terrace Green at 10:30am, followed by a service at Seaham Town Park at 10:58am.
Sedgefield, Spennymoor, and Willington: Morning services, parades, and wreath-laying ceremonies at local war memorials.

York and North Yorkshire: City Services and Village Tributes
Communities across York and North Yorkshire will also pause to remember, with services taking place in the city and surrounding towns.
York: The city’s main service will be held at the Memorial Gardens from 11am, organised by the York Branch of the Royal British Legion. Military and ex-service personnel will march through the city, with Legion and Regimental Standards. Veterans will gather in Stonegate from 10am, with facilities provided by The Punch Bowl before and after the parade. Temporary traffic restrictions will be in place between 7am and 1pm.
At 6:30pm, St Lawrence Parish Church will host a Service of Remembrance and Choral Evensong, attended by civic dignitaries including the High Sheriff of North Yorkshire and Lord Mayor of York. Pupils from St Lawrence’s CE Primary will display candle-lit lanterns honouring parishioners who gave their lives in the World Wars and Falklands conflict.
Selby: 10am service at Selby Abbey, featuring hymns, prayers, and a moment of silence.
Elvington: Outdoor service at the French Memorial at 11am, followed by a 2pm chapel service and wreath-laying at the Yorkshire Air Museum.
Strensall and Poppleton: Local parades and remembrance services will take place throughout the day.
Transport Notice: First Bus is offering free travel to serving personnel, veterans, and cadets attending remembrance events.
Northallerton: Evening Festival of Remembrance
Northallerton will also pay tribute with its annual Festival of Remembrance at The Forum on Sunday, November 9th, at 7:30pm.
The concert, led by Musical Director Alan Owens, will feature the Festival Concert Band and Crash Bang Wallop Youth Theatre Singers, performing music from across the British Isles alongside tributes to the Armed Forces past and present.
An Act of Remembrance will form the centrepiece of the event, with proceeds supporting the Lance Corporal Ben Hyde Memorial Trust and the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

South Cumbria: Services from Barrow to Ulverston
Residents across South Cumbria will also come together to mark Remembrance Sunday with ceremonies across Barrow, Millom, Dalton, and Ulverston.
Barrow: Parade and service from 10:20am, assembling outside Barrow Town Hall and arriving at the War Memorial in Barrow Park for a service, two-minute silence, and wreath-laying at 11am.
Millom: Service at St George’s Church followed by a parade and secondary service at St Luke’s Church, Haverigg. Organised by the Town Council, RBL, RNA, and Millom Veterans Breakfast Club.
Events to mark Remembrance Sunday will take place across the Borough of Barrow on November 13: Service at St Mary’s Church at 9:30am, followed by a parade from Tudor Square at 10:30am and wreath-laying at 11am. A short service will also take place at Newton-in-Furness War Memorial at 11:45am.
Ulverston: Service at Ulverston Parish Church at 2:30pm followed by a parade through the town, led by the Parade Marshal and Ulverston Town Band, with wreaths laid at Market Place around 3:30pm. A short act of remembrance will also be held at the War Memorial on Tuesday, November 11th at 10:50am - 11:00am.
