Located near the banks of the meandering River Tyne, Hexham
and Corbridge are host to the magnificent historic remains
of the Roman Emperor Hadrian's presence in Northern England.
The Romans built one of the best bits of the Roman Empire,
right here! Hadrian's Wall.
Using the natural lie of the land Hadrian's Wall passes through
milestones, lime kilns and other archaeological areas of interest.
Vindolanda, a Roman fort, is situated between the A69 and
the B6318 roads. Here you'll find a Roman temple, house -
even boots and shoes!
Housesteads is located a mile further on from Vindolanda
and nestles in breathtaking countryside. Housesteads is the
most complete fort in Britain and it still features the latrines!
If you venture further west through Tynedale, you'll bump
into Corbridge. Sitting proudly alongside the banks of the
River Tyne, Corbridge boasts buildings of archaeological interest,
quaint tea rooms and unusual and interesting shops - containing
lots of interesting curios.
In the West Allen Valley expect to see red squirrels, roe
deer and heron. Curlews in spring, oyster catcher and green
plover.
In late summer you'll discover the red grouse and blackcock
clothed in purple near the heather-clad hills of the North
Pennines.
Relax and pursue your hobbies: golf, fishing, walking, bird
watching.
Enjoy a quiet stroll by the river or through the historic
